Whenever a significant honors show nears, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
