Wimbledon Embraces Video Replay System in 2025.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in implementing replay technology.

Video review systems will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors are granted the right to question particular rulings made by the official, following the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move comes just a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review other decisions, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there is no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can initiate.

Case in Point

An illustrative incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."

The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.

Other Changes

Another innovation at Wimbledon this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
